Online Research (Databases)
Find magazine articles and other useful online resources such as HeritageQuest, SIRS, WorldCat and more!
Online research tools are subscription web sites or databases provided to our library patrons. These subscription web sites are paid for with library funds. A user name and password are required to access them.
The following databases are available to Hastings Public Library card holders.

Bloom's Literary Reference Online
Bloom's Literary Reference Online is a Facts on File database which offers literature reference materials valuable to both high school and college students. Chronicle Career Library
- Choosing an occupation or making a career change is a very challenging task. The average person makes at least three career changes in their life time.

Chronicle Occupational Briefs present information on more than 2,000 occupational titles, including 650 comprehensive occupational descriptions, ranging from those that require a high school diploma or less, through professional careers. (Password required, must have a current library card.)

EBSCOhost MAS Ultra—Public Library Edition
EBSCOhost offers full-text magazine articles for over 400 general interest magazines, including Consumer Reports.

FACTS.com Facts On File World News Digest
With FACTS.com, you can get answers to your questions about events, issues, statistics and people of the last 20 years. This database delivers special features including statistics, maps, photographs, historic documents, and overviews of key issues, news makers and events since 1980. (Password required, must have a current library card.)

Nebraska OverDrive Libraries
My library, anytime, with Nebraska OverDrive Libraries. With support from the Nebraska Library Commission, HPL now offers audio digital books via Nebraska OverDrive Libraries. Browse a dynamic collection of audio books. Check out and download best-selling titles to your PC, then transfer to a portable device or burn some titles to CD and enjoy anytime, anywhere. (Nebraska OverDrive Libraries is for home use, must have a current library card.) Starting July 17, 2008, on an ongoing basis, a maintenance window will be scheduled on the third Thursday of each month, from 7am – 8 am. Nebraska OverDrive may not be available during the maintenance.

NetLibrary
NetLibrary provides users with full-text searching of electronic books. Over 10,000 titles to choose from. NetLibrary provides access to Hastings Public Library's eContent collection. eContent is the digital version of books, journals, and database content. You can access eContent 24 hours a days, seven days a week. (Password required, must set up a free personal account at the library.)

NoveList is a guide to all things fiction—use it to find new authors and titles. NoveList has everything for the fiction reader from author and title read-alikes to series searches. (Password required, must have a current library card.)

ReferenceUSA (Find an address)
Searching for the name or address of a person or a business or a list of businesses in a specific industry or in a specific location? ReferenceUSA not only is searchable by name, address, or location but also by yellow page heading or the name of a company executive. Includes links to financial statistics: current stock quotes, Edgar Financial Information, credit ratings, annual reports and much more. (Password is your library card number.)

SIRS Researcher
SIRS Researcher provides comprehensive full-text articles provide access to a wide variety of sources. Topics range from family, health and business to economics, world affairs, science and government. (Password required, must have a current library card.)

Value Line is a source of accurate and independently created research information for investors. Value Line collects data and analyzes performance of approximately 8,000 stocks, 13,000 mutual funds, 80,000 options and other securities. (Password required, must have a current library card.)

NebraskAccess – The following databases are available to Nebraska residents.
General information about NebraskAccess The Nebraska Library Commission, with funding from the Unicameral, provides the following databases—which can be accessed from home via the Internet—all of which are free to residents of Nebraska.
Hastings Public Library patrons may call the library at (402) 461-2346 or e-mail us to obtain one convenient password for all of the following databases. This password will change twice a year. Nebraska residents may
also log in to these databases by using their Nebraska driver's license or Nebraska state ID number.

FirstSearch
Use FirstSearch to access an online database service operated by OCLC (Online Computer Library Center). Twelve databases to search including WorldCat, a worldwide library catalog—great for doing your own interlibrary loan searching; ERIC, an index to journal articles and reports in education; and The World Almanac, searchable full-text content from Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia and four almanacs. No full text except for WorldAlmanac.

HeritageQuest Online
Your resource for family and local history. This collection assembles genealogies, local histories, primary source materials, and genealogical and local history serials. HeritageQuest Online includes over 25,000 family and local history books and the complete US Federal Census 1790-1930.
