Hastings Public Library adds computers for kids | Posted February 8, 2010

New computers for kidsHastings Public Library announces the addition of two new computers in the children’s room. The new computers are Early Literacy Stations (ELS), all-in-one computers loaded with more than sixty English and Spanish educational software titles for kids ages 2-10. The Early Literacy Stations offer children a standalone computer experience that is age-appropriate, engaging and academically relevant for children. The two new computers each feature a colorful keyboard and a child-sized mouse and headphones, all on a table just the right height for small computer users.

The Early Learning Stations' educational multimedia software covers seven curricular areas chosen from the highest rated age appropriate learning programs available. The system is designed to attract and educate toddlers through early elementary school ages by providing fun, interactive games and activities.

The addition of the computers in the children's room is part of Hastings Public Library's new strategic plan which focuses on computer access and early literacy. "These new computers are wonderful in that we can provide access to learning about computers to kids who may not have computers at home," commented Library Director Amy Greenland. "It also provides a great learning opportunity to kids in a safe and fun way."

The purchase of the Early Learning Stations and new furniture was made possible by a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation, the generous donations of Pershing Orthodontics, Friends of the Hastings Public Library, and the Hastings Public Library Foundation.
