Another summer's at an end—August 20, 2010
August is here and once again we must say goodbye to summer and get ready for another school year. It’s time to hit the stores and buy new clothes and school supplies and hope that the new pair of jeans you just bought are not to short by the first of October. This is when we forget about having checked out books, magazines or DVD’s over the summer. Friday August 27th is the last time that you can turn in overdue items and not get charged a late fee. So gather up all the late library items and get them turned in by the 27th of August and we will waive the fees.
Speaking of back to school, stop in and check out the Golden Sower nominees. Your children can read each of the books that have been nominated for the 2010/2011 Golden Sower award, and vote for their favorite in the spring. I also want to tell you about the wonderful selection of books that we have to help your child reach their accelerated reading goal. We can access a website that has a list of A.R. books and tell you what the reading level and point value of each book is.
If you have been in the library within the last couple of weeks you may have noticed a change in the computer lab area. With the help of a Gates Foundation Grant, the library has been able to add 3 more computers to the lab. With the addition of the computers more students will be able to use the computers to help with writing research papers. Also, to help with research papers we have databases where you can search for articles on your papers’ topic and even learn how to correctly cite them. So if you are researching oil spills, the information provided will be as current as this week to as old as 1990. Stop in and take a look at what we have available so you are prepared when an assignment comes home. Have a great school year and we look forward to helping you and your child achieve their reading goals!
